SocialBlogroll FAQs
How Do I Submit My Blog?
Simple answer - you can't. SocialBlogroll is an exclusive, gated community. In order to appear on this system you must be recommended by one of our chosen gatekeepers. They can do this by simply placing a link to you in their blogroll on their site. Our system will then automatically pick up your RSS feed and include your site.
How Does the Ranking Work?
We have a highly secret and complex algorithm for ranking blogs within our system. It makes Google look easy. However we can give you some hints.
You will score points the more times we find your site recommended by gatekeepers. You can also score extra points for regularly updating your content. Blogs that do not update within two weeks will loose points.
Also remember that if you loose the support of the gatekeepers and they start removing you from their blogroll, your ranking will decrease. Ultimately, if no gatekeeper is linking to you, your site will disappear from our system. The gatekeepers hold all the power in socialblogroll. Get your social whore hat on and make some friends or start producing consistently great content that people want to link to.
How Can I Become A Gatekeeper?
Ah I thought you might ask that. Our selection process for gatekeepers is a tightly kept secret and we strongly deny rumors that it involves beer. However these are some of the things we would look for.
- You operate a publicly available OPML feed
- You display your blogroll publicly within your own site
- Your OPML feed works and is error free
- Your blogroll contains some useful recommendations, or are you still linking to Threadwatch as a 'regular read'?
- Your blog is still active
- You have a funky favicon
If you think that you have the right stuff, contact us at info (at) socialblogroll.com with your details.
How do I Claim My Blog?
The gatekeepers can get your blog onto this system but after that you are free to claim your blog and make some changes to your listing.
Click the icon underneath your blog listing and create a new account. You will then be asked to upload a special file to your web server which proves you own this site.
You can then change the title and add up to 10 tags. These tags will make your feed appear on dedicated pages of the aggregator at its own URL. We would suggest adding tags which describe your exact niche or specialty. For example, you may focus many of your posts on Google Adwords or PPC. Adding the latter would make your site appear on the page http://socialblogroll.com/tag/PPC.
Sites on each tagged page are ranked as usual and come with their own RSS feed. We will display the most popular tags in the menu but you can view them all on the tag page.
